Community organizations

For Phebe there are many benefits to community volunteering. Helping others, meeting new people, making new friends, and learning new things. Below is a list of organizations in which Phebe is currently involved.

Community Film Studio Santa Barbara

In 2011, Phebe joined the board as secretary for the not-for-profit organization, Community Film Studio Santa Barbara (CFSSB). Volunteering with others who also have a passion for film, is a wonderful experience for Phebe who has a double major in Film Studies and Political Science.

CFSSB's mission is to empower filmmakers and provide mentoring for community members in the media arts. The Bet is an award-winning feature film produced by the studio with an all volunteer cast and crew.

The studio currently has projects in production and in development.

Phebe currently serves as president. In 2017, the studio launched an ambitious production, Salsipuedes Street with Phebe as Producer. Read about Salsipuedes Street.

Around 2001, Phebe started volunteering watering trees in the summer for Goleta Valley Beautiful (GVB). It was a very hot summer and she enjoyed the opportunity to be outside performing volunteer service. After two years of summer watering, Phebe was asked to join the board. She served in a variety of positions and offices.

She received the President's Award and the coveted Golden Shovel.

Goleta Old Town Community Association

Native Daughters of the Golden West

In 2007, Phebe relocated her residence and business to the Goleta Old Town district where she recruited help from fellow business owners formed a core team to fulfill a mission of community building and revitalization. In January 2017 the group formalized as Goleta Old Town Community Association (GOTCA), a registered 501 c 3 non-profit organization.

GOTCA promotes economic development and community building events throughout the year: Concerts at the Gazebo; Merchant's Halloween Candy Crawl & Games; Christmas Parade; Taste & Sounds of Old Town; Summer Games & Movies, Discover Old Town Market Branding, Elves of the Cheerful Message, Love Your City, Envisioning, and community forums. GOTCA received the 2018 national Neighborhood Program of the Year Award for Social Revitalization.

Phebe served for a short time as executive Director and retired in 2019 from the organization after bringing home several awards: National Neighborhood of the Year (Santa Comes to Old Town 2018, Love Your City 2019) and Finalist National Neighborhood of the Year (Summer Games & Movies 2019 and Taste & Sounds of Old Town 2019).

Reina del Mar Parlor No. 126 of the Native Daughters of the Golden West is a fraternal organization of California-born women. Phebe was heavily involved for ten years holding a variety of offices including two terms as president. In 2006, she was selected to portray Saint Barbara, a privilege reserved exclusively for Reina del Mar members in appreciation for their active support in establishing Fiesta.

While an active member, Phebe authored several state initiatives which were approved.

Phebe is a member in good standing.

Dos Pueblos Little League

Perhaps one of the best organizations Phebe participated with is Dos Pueblos Little League (DPLL). The organization boasted a very large board of whom the majority actively participated. The positive energy from this group was empowering. They are the reason Phebe was an active member for so many years. During her ten years on DPLL, she served two years on the Grievance Committee. This was a valuable experience.

Even though Phebe retired from DPLL, she is still a big fan.
